now leading guard
rectifying this sinking yard
an awkward torch
this confederation would disbar
without a leader
holding the card
laws of congress—
lost in the dark

to weave the yarn
private conversations
set the course
delegates struggled
the washington resource

freedom's sounding heart
proven worth at war
his qualities
his abilities
all set the bar
the united states constitution
every word's written art

their modeled herb
for this troubled herd

without remorse

fighting
on the ground

without book-worm smarts
a full-blooded soldier's heart
